Beyond Beauty, Beyond Me

There is a kind of beauty the world doesn’t recognize nearly enough—the beauty that exists in the midst of pain.

Cancer was my diagnosis, but it never defined me. It touched me physically and emotionally, but it could not touch my spirit.

There were many days filled with side effects—fatigue, muscle and joint pain—but the one that affected me most was the loss of my hair. That moment was deeply personal and, at times, overwhelming. Yet even then, I chose grace. I chose strength. I was determined not to let my situation dim my light.

During my treatment, I was blessed to find a community at The Gathering Place. There, I met incredible men and women—some who are now cancer-free and others still courageously fighting. Those rooms are filled with love, encouragement, support, and hope. It became one of my favorite places—a vital part of my healing journey. I am forever grateful.

I’ve learned that beauty is not found in perfection, but in courage and resilience. Giving up was never an option. Today, I find gratitude in the little things.

On March 26th, I experienced a devastating loss. My father, 95 years young, passed away peacefully during the night. He was more than my father—he was my rock, my comfort, and my constant. He was the first person I said good morning to and the last I said goodnight to. His love and presence carried me through my hardest days. I am deeply thankful for every memory we shared.

I’m also incredibly grateful for my family and friends, near and far, for their unwavering love and support. And a special thank you to my “why”—my son, Stedy, and my daughter, Imani. My beautiful, strong children who have stood by me since day one and continue to show up with love every single day. I love you both more than yesterday.

I stand here today knowing that beauty is not just what you see in the mirror—it’s what your soul reveals.

So, to anyone facing a diagnosis or walking through a difficult season: remember this—even in your darkest moments, you are still powerful. You are worthy. And there is still beauty in your story.

As Psalm 23:4 reminds us:
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

Thank you.
